Why Enroll at Rêve Prep?

REVE-7.jpg

Rêve Preparatory Charter School is a tuition-free, public charter school providing an academically rigorous education to students from the Greater Houston TX area. Admission is based on a random lottery. There are no admissions applications or interviews, and there is no tuition fee. All students —including English language learners, limited English proficient students, and special education students—are encouraged to apply through the lottery.

Per the Rêve Preparatory, Inc. charter, we are only permitted to enroll students who reside within the following districts: Houston ISD, Fort Bend ISD, Stafford Municipal School District, Aldine ISD, Alief ISD, Cypress-Fairbanks ISD, Katy ISD, Pasadena ISD, Pearland ISD, Spring Branch ISD, and Spring ISD.

Rêve Prep is different by design.

Rêve Prep is purposely designed to be different from a traditional school. You should consider applying to Rêve Prep if you are looking for an academically rigorous school that consistently supports high behavior expectations. Some ways that those high expectations translate into practice are:

  • Small class sizes: ensuring students receive the support they need at their level. We purposely maintain smaller class sizes than most ISD campuses to ensure our students can receive 1:1 interaction with their teachers. Middle school classes are larger, but students receive small group tutoring and advisory periods.

  • Co-Teaching through 2nd Grade: To ensure our youngest scholars are supported we operate with two (2) teachers in our Kinder, 1st, and 2nd grade classes. This allows for better small group rotations and improves the student to teacher ratio in our classrooms.

  • 2 hours of literacy instruction daily: Reading is the foundation to much of our education. We believe that ensuring students are receiving literacy instruction, both in group and individual settings, sets them up for success beyond the classroom.

  • At least 90 minutes of math instruction daily: Beginning in Kindergarten, we put a focus on making sure our students are well versed in mathematics, from understanding of numbers and basic word problems to the ability to complete multi-step equations.

  • A longer school day and school year: Rêve Prep students spend about 30% more time in school than students who attend Houston Public Schools. We begin school in early August to ensure our students are ready for academic success.

  • A school uniform that all students are required to wear daily: Our expectations are high for our students. Rêve Prep students are expected to be dressed for success, in uniform, and ready to learn, on a daily basis. This applies to Remote & In-Person learning.

  • Nightly homework: Our learning does not stop in the classroom. Beginning in kindergarten, all students have the expectation that they will complete high quality homework every night.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  1. Do I need to complete a separate application for each of my children?

Yes. Each child needs his/her own application.

  2. Do I need to submit proof of residency with my child’s application?

No. You will need to show proof of residency upon acceptance to Rêve Preparatory Charter School to maintain residential preference. We must give lottery preference to residents living within Houston ISD and Fort Bend ISD. Proof of residency can be a copy of your lease, mortgage, utility bill, pay check/stub, bank account statement or identification card. Bills, pay stubs, and account statements must be issued within the past 90 days.

  3. How will I know if my child(ren) get accepted into Rêve Prep?

We run our application lottery in February each year. After the lottery, you will receive an electronic notification as well as a phone call from the school with your admission status or your waitlist number if you are not admitted for the upcoming school year. If you are placed on a waitlist, your family will receive consistent updates until your child(ren) receives an offer of enrollment.

  4. If one of my children is accepted and I have another child on the waitlist, will they be given sibling preference?

Yes, but this does NOT mean that the sibling will automatically be admitted. Once a child has accepted a seat at our school, his or her siblings on the waitlist will be given sibling preference, which will likely move them closer to the top of the waitlist for their grade, among siblings currently waiting for admission. There are siblings at the top of the waitlist for most grades because siblings are only admitted if a spot is available in that grade.

  5. What do I do if my child has been offered enrollment at Rêve Prep?

If your child is awarded a seat in our lottery, you have two (2) weeks to accept or deny your seat. Once you have accepted your child’s seat, we will follow up with you regarding required documents and enrollment paperwork.

  6. How old must my child be to enroll in Kindergarten?

To apply to kindergarten, students MUST BE 5 years old or older on September 1.

  7. What should I do if I am not sure I want to apply or not?

If you are not sure if you want to apply, we suggest you go ahead and do it. Apply Today. If you don’t apply and decide after the application period is over that you wish you had, there is nothing that we can do to help you. But if you apply and you do receive a spot, you can always change your mind later. You will get a lot more questions answered and a lot more information about our school before you have to enroll your child. Plus, you can decline your spot any time during the process, so please don’t feel like this application is a final commitment.

  8. Who do I contact if I have more questions about enrollment?

Families with additional questions about enrollment should contact Rêve Prep directly at 713.703.0219 or info@reveprep.org.
